What is the SUNRISE-3 balloon mission?
SUNRISE-3 is an international collaboration project to observe the Sun from an altitude of 35 km using a large telescope carried by a stratospheric balloon. With an aperture of 1 meter, it is the world's largest airborne solar telescope. At an altitude of 35 km, most of the Earth's atmosphere is not present, allowing for very precise solar observations. In this third mission of SUNRISE, several types of light (visible, ultraviolet and near-infrared), emitted from the solar atmosphere, will be observed to unravel the mysteries of the energy conversion processes that take place in the solar atmosphere.
