1960The Science Council of Japan dispatches a main observation team to Hokkaido and a separate team to Alaska. In addition, it is decided to conduct in-flight observations.
7/19/1962Shigeru Hata conducts a field survey and narrows down the candidate observation sites to two locations: Dai-machi, Abashiri City, and the Bihoro-Kita relay station.
winter 1963Saito Kuniharu decides to go to Alaska, and the observation site is decided to be in Daimachi, Abashiri City.
6/19/1963Observation equipment (41 boxes) is shipped to Abashiri.
6/25/1963Three members of the advance party (Hata, Tojo, and Shimachi) depart from Ueno for Abashiri.
6/27/1963The first three members of the advance party arrive in Abashiri.
7/3/1963Test flight of Beechcraft aircraft
7/4/1963Preparation of polarized light observation equipment is completed
7/5/1963Shimaji leaves for Tokyo.
7/10/1963Nakamura and Saito depart Ueno.
7/15/1963Osawa arrives at Abashiri
7/19/1963Beechcraft departs Chofu Airfield for Chitose Airport (Shimizu boarding)
